Living by Faith

This is the cornerstone of Christianity (and all Abrahamic religions). Living by faith means believing something without seeing it. Believing something without any concrete proof. Faith is also taught to mean a trust. So, even though Christians have no proof (or even reliable evidence) that a God exists, they trust that one does and they trust in HIM. Their faith is in the notion that God loves and cares for them very much and wants the best for them. So, in living by faith, it means they are living without the fear of bad things happening because of cliches like, "Everything happens for a reason," or, "God never gives you more than you can handle." Christians have faith that God has got their back.

Issues with the idea of living by faith:

Faith does not equal truth.

The entire concept of faith is the idea that you are believing something without being able to see it and with no evidence or proof it exists. Yet, many clergy and teachers teach and many believers believe that their faith in the Bible being true means that it is, in fact, true. Even though logic tells us that by definition, faith cannot equal truth, many people live as though it were fact.

How do they do this?

They do it by declaring that the Bible is true. They do it by condemning all other religions, deities and religious texts as false, calling them mythology while failing to see the irony. They do it by trying to enact legislation onto other people to force them to live by rules that align with their faith (I'm looking at you, conservative Christians).

Faith is not equal to truth. Nobody should be able to force their beliefs onto other people. Especially when those beliefs cannot be proven as true. Just because a group of people believes something to be true does not mean it is true. For something to be a fact it must be able to be independently verified. People should be allowed to believe in whatever they want to believe in. What people should NOT be able to do is structure a society that forces others to live by the rules of the thing they believe in. Period.
