Love Me, Or Else
In church you are taught this notion that, GOD IS LOVE. We are taught that this is the case because he loved mankind SO MUCH that he sacrificed his ONE AND ONLY SON for US so that we could spend eternity with him in heaven. It is DRILLED into our brains that God is the most selfless, caring, creator that can be imagined because he gave his own son's life, for us. How much must a heavenly father love humanity to allow his own son to die for it?
Okay, first of all, God made ALL OF THE RULES. The God of the Bible is not the definition of love. This God does not rule by love. He rules by FEAR, plain and simple. And he governs with a real bully mentality of, "Sorry, I can't let you in unless you declare me as the one true God and agree to worship me even though I can totally prove to you that I exist, but instead will leave an archaic book of breadcrumbs for you to try and decipher as proof that I exist. BUT..... if you don't promise to love and worship me, I'm sorry but I invented this place where you will suffer for all eternity. But, I have nothing but love for ALL PEOPLE. Love me or else! But, I am really so merciful and the definition of love."
Fuck off with that.
The ruling by fear aspect removes any sincerity on the part of the worshipper. If they feel like they have no choice and must follow a certain list of rules and MUST worship and MUST pray and declare God the Lord of all creation, then wouldn't that mean everything was being done strictly out of obligation and fear of what awful thing might happen to them if they don't? It's why people who believe are so concerned when they hear about someone being atheist. They are terrified about that person's eternity. The concern comes from a genuine place, but it's misplaced.
Love me, or else cannot be the definition of love. That's a toxic "love" that is in ALL WAYS conditional. We are taught God loves unconditionally. There are countless examples in "God's Word" that disprove that. The God of the Bible is not LOVE. The God of the Bible is evil and he's not generous for sending his son to die, he needed a loophole for all the screw ups he made. You know, the God who is all knowing and made this big divine plan, he needed a loophole. The story disguises itself as a selfless act by God for all of mankind. When you look at it, at face value it kinds loses its luster.
